Gardening has been my life’s work for almost 40 years.

After serving my apprenticeship I trained at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh and later worked as a Head Gardener with the National Trust for Scotland.  I established Wild at Heart Gardening in 1996.

I draw inspiration from travelling at home or abroad, either trekking in the wild or visiting gardens.

The alpine meadows of the Alps and the stylistic simplicity of Japanese Gardens are a particular source of inspiration.

As a plantsman gardener, my skill is selecting the ideal plants for whatever conditions exist in your garden – be it dry or damp, sunny or shady… or a combination of all four.

Our pond has made a huge difference to our garden and has brought in so much more wildlife and it looked as if it had always been there within about six months. It's a pleasure to sit near on a summers day or evening and hear the frogs croaking or watch the birds bathing, we've even caught the hedgehogs coming down for a drink on our nature camera.

Mike very knowledgeable and professional offering advice on the type and design of pond that suited us, location within the garden, plant types and where in the pond to put them. We have also had invaluable advice on maintaining the pond throughout the year and how to encourage wildlife to settle in. The work was carried out quickly and with very little disturbance to the rest of the garden.
